have, make and use a common seal, and the same to break,
alter and renew at pleasure; and also to assemble and meet
at such time and places as they may agree upon, and to or-
dain, establish and put in execution such by-laws, ordinan-
ces and regulations, as to them shall seem conducive to the
interest of said company, and necessary to the good govern-
ment and orderly management thereof, the same not being
contrary to the laws of this State, or of the United States,
or of the mayor and city council of Baltimore; and general-
ly to do and execute all such acts, matters, and things as to
them shall or may appertain to do.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act be
construed so as to authorize the said corporation to issue
any note, token, device, scrip, or other evidence of debt,
to be used as currency.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That this act of incorpora-
tion shall inure for thirty years from its passage, and that
the legislature reserves to itself the right to alter or annul
this act of incorporation at pleasure..

An act to incorporate the Maryland Catholic Temperance
and Beneficial Association of the City of Baltimore.

Section I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the Reverend Peter L. Schreiber, William
George Reed, George A. Henisler, Patrick Murray, John
Galvan, John Fitzpatrick and Peter Bird, of the city of Bal-
timore, and others their associates, who now are or may here-
after become members of the Maryland Catholic Temper-
ance and Beneficial Association, and their successors, are
hereby created a corporation and body politic, by the name

and style of the Maryland Catholic Temperance and Bene-
ficial Association, and by that name shall have succession,
and shall be capable to sue and be sued, at law or in equity,
and also to have and use a common seal, and the same to
break, alter or renew at their pleasure, and also to ordain,
establish and put into execution, such constitution, bylaws,
and regulations as shall seem to them necessary and conve-
nient for the government of the said corporation, not being
contrary to law or the provisions of this act of incorporation,
and generally to do all and singular such acts as to them
shall appertain to do, in furtherance of the objects of their
association.
