An act to authorize Martha F. Mason, of the District of
Columbia, to hold and retain in this Stale, negro girl

Section I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall be lawful for Martha F. Mason, of
the District of Columbia, to hold and retain in this State, as
a slave for life, a negro girl named Jane, who is now within

this State; provided, that the said Martha F. Mason, shall
within thirty days after the passage of this act, make affi-
davit before some justice of the peace of Anne Arundel
county, and have the same filed in the office of the clerk of
Anne Arundel county, of her intention to become a resident
of this State; and provided also, that the said Martha F.
Mason, shall within the time aforesaid, file with the said
clerk a list of said slave, with an affidavit thereto attached
that the same is a true and faithful list of said slave, and
that she, the said Martha F. Mason, has not brought or re-
moved said slave into this State for sale, and that the said
negro Jane is a slave for life; provided, that the said Martha
F. Mason, pay the sum of fifteen dollars to the clerk of
said county, at the time of giving said list, to be paid over
to the Treasurer of the Western Shore, for the use and
benefit of the Colonization Society.

An act for the relief of James Price, Register of Wills,
for Talbot County.
|

26, 1843.
|
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That it shall and may be lawful for James Price, Register
of Wills, of Talbot county, to renew his bond as register
aforesaid, with sufficient sureties, on or before the first day
of August next, and the orphans' court are hereby directed
to approve or reject the same, in the same manner they
might, or could have done if the said bond had been renew-
ed and presented to them at the time fixed by law for the
renewing of registers bonds, and the said bond so executed
and approved, shall have the same effect in law as if the
same had been renewed on or before the first day of Au-
gust last past, and the said James Price, is hereby relieved
from any penalties which may have been incurred by his
