defended, in all or any courts of justice, and before all or
any judges, officers or persons whatsoever, in all and singu-
lar actions, matters or demands whatsoever.

CHAP. 39.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall and may be law-
ful for the said corporation, to have a common seal for their
use, and the same at their will and pleasure to change alter
and make anew from time to time as they may think best,
and shall in general have and. exercise all such rights, pri-
vileges and immunities as by law are incident or necessary
to corporations, and what may be necessary to the corpora-
tion herein constituted, and to enable the members of said
order, to exercise all things concerning the designs of this
corporation, for the benevolent relief of the sick and dis-
tressed, and for the promotion of their purposes generally.

General pow-
ers.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That it shall and may be lawful
at any time, for the General Assembly to demand a state-
ment of the amount of property, real and personal, belonging
to the said corporation, and of the debts due to and from
the said corporation, and the purposes for which disburse-
ments shall have been made, and shall also have the right to
authorize one or more persons to inspect such general ac-
counts in the books of the corporation as shall relate to such
statements.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That the General Assembly of
Maryland reserves the right to change, alter or annul this
act of incorporation at any time.

Sec. 6. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act shall
be so construed as to authorize the said corporation to issue
any note, scrip, token, device or other evidence of debt, to
be used as currency.

CHAPTER 39.

 

An act directing the Levy Court, and Trustees of the Alms
House, of Frederick County, and the Mayor of Frederick
to publish annually, a full statement of their receipts and
disbursements.

26, 1842.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That the levy court of Frederick county shall
hereafter close their annual levy by the first week of Sep-
tember in every year, and shall publish a fair and accurate
statement of all receipts and expenditures of the twelve
months next preceding, in the several newspapers printed
in said county, in the second week of September annually,
