CHAPTER 327.

10, 1842.

An act entitled, a supplement to an act entitled, an act la
provide for the completion of the Baltimore and Susque-
hanna Rail Road to the Borough of York, in the State of
Pennsylvania.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That from and after the passage of this act it shall and may
be competent For the president and directors of the Balti-
more and Susquehanna Rail Road Company, to contract For
the amount of toll upon said road, upon the articles of lime,

limestone, wood and coal; provided however, that nothing in
this act shall be so construed as to authorize the said com-
pany to charge a higher rate of toll upon the aforesaid arti-
cles than is now Fixed by existing acts.

 

CHAPTER 328.

10, 1842

A further supplement to an act passed at March session,
eighteen hundred and forty-one, chapter twenty-three, en-
titled, an act for the General Valuation and Assessment
of Property in this Stale, and to provide a Tax to pay
the Debts of the State.

Five cents
additional tax

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That a Further tax of five cents in the hundred
dollars, in addition to the tax imposed by the act to which
this is a supplement, shall be imposed on all the property in
this State, assessed by virtue of said act, and of the supple-
ment thereto, passed at the present session, and that the said
additional tax be levied and collected in the manner directed
for the levying and collecting the tax imposed by said acts.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the several collectors
in the counties of this State, in Howard district and in Bal-
timore city, be and they are hereby authorized and directed
to collect the said additional tax, so that the same be paid
into the treasury, in Following proportions, and at the several
times Following, to wit: one half part thereof, on or before
the first day of December next, and the residue thereof on
or before the first day of March, eighteen hundred and forty -
three, subject to the penalties imposed by said original act.
