An act to authorize the opening of a New Road in Cecil
County.

Whereas, sundry inhabitants of Cecil "county, by their •
petition in writing, Have represented to this General As-
sembly, that the publics convenience and interests would be
greatly promoted by the passage of an act authorizing the
opening of a road commencing at the Charlestown road,
between the Cross roads near Elizabeth England's and the
Pennsylvania line, and running thence the nearest and best
route by I. and A. Pierson's mills, till it intersect the road
from the Brick Meeting House to Oxford, between the pub-
lic house of John Pierson and the Pennsylvania line—there-

fore,
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Ellis Reynolds, William McCullough and
John Pierson, be and they are hereby appointed to survey,
lay out and open a road not exceeding thirty feet in width,
commencing at some point on the Charlestown road, between
the Cross roads near Elizabeth England's and the Pennsyl-
vania line, and running thence the nearest and best route by
I. and A. Pierson's mills, until it intersect the road leading
from the Brick meeting house to Oxford, between the pub-
lic house of John Pierson and the Pennsylvania line, and the
road when so opened shall thereafter be deemed to be a
public road forever, and shall be kept in repair in the same

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That the commissioners of
Cecil county be and they are hereby authorized and requir-
ed, on receiving from the road commissioners or a majority
of them, on oath, of the. expenses of surveying, laying out
and opening of said road, including one dollar and fifty
cents per day to each of the road commissioners for his
services, to levy the same on the assessable property of said
county at their next annual levy, to be collected as other

county now are collected.
Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the road commissioners
or a majority of them, shall value and ascertain the dama-
ges that may be sustained by any person or persons through
whose land the said road may be made to pass, and that it
estimating the damages, the advantages of the said road
shall be taken into consideration, and the damages so ascer-
tained, shall be levied, assessed and collected as other coun-
ty charges now are.
