LAWS OF MARYLAND

CHAP. 34

nothing herein contained shall be construed to authorize- or
empower said society to do or perform any act not necessa-
ry to the attainment of the benevolent purposes for which
the said society is herein declared to be incorporated.

Legal capa-
city.

Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That said society, and their
successors, by the aforesaid name, shall hereafter be able
and capable in law, to sue and be sued, in all or any courts
of justice whatsoever, and the said society may also adopt
such by-laws and regulations as they may deem necessary

Proviso.

for the government thereof, the authentication of its acts,
and the proper management of its concerns; provided, that
the same shall not be contrary to any provisions of this act,
or any law of this State or of the United States.

Officers—
when elected.

Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That the affairs of said socie-
ty shall be managed and conducted by a president, vice
president, treasurer, secretary and five stewards, who shall
be elected semi-annually, on the first Thursday in January
and July, and until said election, the affairs of said society
shall be conducted by the present officers.

Dissolution.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That if at any time it shall
be deemed necessary to dissolve this society, a proposition
to that effect shall be laid upon the table in writing at a
stated meeting of the society, but shall not be finally decid-
ed on until it has been three full months before the society,
and shall not be finally decided on in the affirmative while

ten resident members dissent therefrom; provided however,
that no such dissolution shall operate to impair or invali-
date any contract before that time made, or to affect a suit
then instituted by or against said corporation.

In force.

Sec. 5. And be it enacted, That this act shall be, and
remain in force until the first clay of January, eighteen
hundred and seventy, and until the end of the next session of

poration to issue notes of any kind, character, or descrip-
tion, to be used as currency, or to deny to the legislature
