three dollars for each night of performance; for licenses to
exhibit as ventriloquists, sleight of hand performers, rope
dancers, tumblers and wire dancers, ten dollars for each
week; for circus or equestrian performers, three dollars for
each night of performance; for license to exhibit any ani-
mal or animals or artificial or natural curiosities of any kind,

ten dollars for each week.
Sec. 3. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of
the clerks of the several counties in this State, upon the ap-
plication of any person, persons or company wishing to ex-
hibit any personal performances, or any of the shows men-
tioned in the second section of this act, to grant to such per-
son, persons or associations, upon their paying or securing
to be paid, the. amount of tax so assessed by the provisions
of this act, on each particular exhibition or show, which he
or they may wish to exhibit, a license to exhibit in his coun-
ty or the city of Baltimore, as the case may be, which li-
cense shall contain a list of such personal performances or
animals or other articles or things to be exhibited, and in
that case, such company or person shall be authorized and
permitted to perform and exhibit as aforesaid, in such coun-
ty (and in no other) for the space of one year thereafter, and
each and every itinerant stage player, ventriloquist, sleight
of hand performer, rope dancer, tumbler or wire dancer or
company of circus riders or equestrian performers or exhibi-
tors of artificial or natural curiosities, except the exhibitions
of models of useful inventions, who shall perform or exhibit
in any county in this State, without previously having paid
the tax herein directed, shall be liable to a forfeiture of six-
ty dollars, to be collected by the sheriff by distress and sale
of the property of each delinquent, and to be applied, one
half to the use of the State and the other half to the use of
the sheriff.

Licence for
one year.

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That it shall be the duty of all
stage players, sleight of hand performers, rope dancers,
tumblers, wire dancers, company of circus or equestrian
performers and all exhibitors of natural and artificial curiosi-
ties, to exhibit their licenses to any justice of the peace or
constable, who may demand a view thereof, and if he or
they shall forfeit and pay the sum of twenty dollars for every
such refusal or neglect, and if any such neglect or refusal
shall occur before a justice of the peace, it shall be the duty
of such justice, forthwith to issue his warrant, in the name
of the State of Maryland, against such offender, and upon
the return thereof, to enter up judgment and issue execution
for the said sum of twenty dollars and costs, which said
sum shall be for the use of the State, and if such refusal or
neglect shall happen before a constable, it shall be his duty
