CHAP. 103.

Compensation
to clerk.

SEC. 14. And be it enacted, That in consideration of the
extra duties which the execution of this law will impose on
their clerk, the county commissioners may allow him such
a sum of money, to be collected as other county charges
arc, as they may think will be a reasonable and just com-
pensation tor the performance of such extra duties; and
that the present clerk of said commissioners be and he is
hereby authorised and qualified to hold his office as such
clerk without a new election, for one year from and after
the expiration of the time lor which he was last elected.

SEC. 15. And be it enacted, That if the said county com-
missioners shall at any time after the completion of the as-
sessment and valuation provided for by this act, discover
real or personal property in said county which has not been
assessed and taxed, although liable to be assessed and taxed
under existing laws, they shall assess and value all such
property at its fair value, and levy taxes thereupon ac-
cordingly; and when property is taxed which ought not
to be, they shall have power to release such taxation; and
when any person or corporation is charged with taxes
which another ought to pay, they shall have the power to
charge the person or corporation properly liable with all
such taxes.

assessment, &c.

SEC. 16. And be it enacted, That at all subsequent pe-
riods, the commissioners of Allegany county may, when in
their opinion the public interest requires it, order a new as-
sessment and valuation of the real ami personal property in
said county, according to the provisions of this act; and
that they shall have the power to appoint assessors to make
such new assessment and valuation, two to be appointed for
the county at large, and one associate for each district, and
to fill all vacancies, should any occur from any cause, after
such appointments; and that said commissioners shall pre-
scribe a time for the assessors to complete their assessment
and valuation; and if not completed within such time, the
said commissioners may allow such further time as they think
proper, and that in relation to such future assessment and
valuations, the law shall be in all respects the same as
though this act were re-enacted for the occasion, except-
ing so far as it would interfere with this section of the act,
and produce inconsistency.
