chapter fifteen, be complied with.

CHAPTER 55.

1841.

Preamble.

An act, entitled an act for the relief of Henry Thomas of
Somerset county.
WHEREAS, in the year eighteen hundred and twenty-se-
ven, a certain John Thomas removed from Somerset county
to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, taking with him a negro
woman named Lina, a slave for life; and whereas, the said
negro woman was sold during the past year, at sheriff's
sale in Virginia, and was purchased as a slave for life by
the said Henry Thomas, son of the said John Thomas; and
whereas, the said negro woman is represented to be a favor-
ite family negro of good character, and has been brought
into this state by the said Henry Thomas, who is desirous
of retaining her here as a slave for life; and whereas, the
said Henry Thomas, not being aware of the provisions of
the act of Assembly of eighteen hundred and thirty-nine,
chapter fifteen, has retained the said negro woman in this
State, more than thirty days, without complying with the
provisions of said act of Assembly — Therefore,

Slave to be re-
tained in this
State.

Proviso.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland, That
the said Henry Thomas be, and he is hereby authorised to
retain within this State, as a slave for life, the said negro
woman, named Lina; provided, that he shall, within thirty
days after the passage of this act, in all respects comply
with the provisions of the act of Assembly of this State,
passed at December session, eighteen hundred and thirty-
nine, chapter fifteen, with the exception of filing a list of
said slave within thirty days after the introduction of said
slave into this State.

CHAPTER 56.

Passed Feb. 10,
1841.

An act to provide more effectually for the destruction of
Wolves, Panthers and Foxes, in Allegany County.

$30 for wolves
over 6 months
old when killed.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That from and after the passage of this act,
every person who shall kill or destroy any wolf, panther or
fox, within the limits of Allegany county, shall be entitled
