An act to change the mode of Electing the Commissioners
of the Tax for Howard District, in Anne Arundel
County.

To vote for 8
persons.

One from each
district.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That all persons qualified to vote for delegates
to the General Assembly of Maryland, in Howard District,
in Anne Arundel, and none others, shall annually, at the
time and places of their voting for members of the General
Assembly in said Howard District, vote by ballot for three
persons, (one from each election district in Howard Dis-
trict) having the same qualifications as are required for de-
legates to the General Assembly of Maryland, to be com-
missioners for said Howard District.

Judges to make
return, &c.

And certify.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the judges of election in
said Howard District, for each election district, shall make
a return in form and manner, similar to their certificates
and return of other elections, the number of votes given for
commissioners as aforesaid; and the return judges for said
Howard District in Anne Arundel county, shall assemble at
the seat of justice on the day after said election, and shall
ascertain the whole number of votes given for each person,
as commissioner; and shall by a certificate to be filed with
the clerk of said Howard District court, and by him record-
ed, certify in a form similar to the certificate of the election
of delegates to the General Assembly, that the three per-
sons voted for as commissioners, who shall have received
the highest number of votes, arc hereby elected commis-
sioners for said Howard District, in Anne-Arundel county,
and the three persons so elected, shall constitute a board of
commissioners.

Term of service.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That the three persons so
elected, shall be styled the commissioners of Howard Dis-
trict, and shall continue in office for one year from the time
of election, and until their successors have qualified, and
shall possess and exercise all the powers which are posses-
sed by the present commissioners of Howard District.

Repealed.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That alt such parts of the act
passed at December session, eighteen hundred and thirty-
