CHAP. 63.

May divide or
unite any dis-
trict.

by them for tuition.
SEC. 5. And be it enacted, That the trustees, or a ma-
jority of them, of any adjoining school districts in Som-
erset county, shall have full power and authority to unite
said districts into one, or to subdivide them into more dis-
tricts than now exists, according as the said trustees, or a
majority of them, shall deem most convenient and advan-
tageous for the purposes of education in the said districts;
and that the said trustees, or a majority of them, of the dis-
tricts so uniting or sub-dividing as aforesaid, shall report
their proceedings to the county commissioners of Somerset
county, and shall be entitled to receive the united fund to
which the said districts are separately entitled under the
existing laws, and shall draw for and apply the same to the
purposes of education in the said district so uniting or sub-
divided as aforesaid.

Children to be
sent to most
convenient
school.

SEC. 6. And be it enacted, That parents, guardians and
other persons having charge of children, may send such
children to the school which may be most convenient to
them, whether in their school district or not, under such
regulations as the trustees of such school may prescribe.

Inconsistent
laws repealed.

SEC. 7. And be it enacted, That all laws of this State
inconsistent with the provisions of this act, be and the
same are hereby repealed, so far as the same relates to
Somerset county.

CHAPTER 63.

Passed April 6,
1841.

An act to allow William H. Fitzhugh, late Sheriff and
Collector of Washington County, further time to com-
plete his Collections.

Time extended.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That William H. Fitzhugh, late sheriff and
collector of Washington county, be, and he is hereby au-
thorised and empowered to collect until the first day of
April, eighteen hundred and forty-two, all balances due
him as sheriff and collector of Washington county, in the
same manner which he could or might have done within
the time limited by law, any law to the contrary notwith-
standing.

Make affidavit.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted. That it shall be the duty of
the said William H. Fitzhugh, before he proceeds to exe-
