CHAPTER 235.

Passed Mar. 9,
1841.

An act to provide for the appointment of Trustees of the
Poor for Somerset County.

Commissioners
to meet annu-
ally in April.

And appoint six
trustees of poor.

Quorum.

Their powers.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That it shall be the duty of the commissioners
for Somerset county to meet annually at the town of Prin-
cess Anne, in said county, on the first Tuesday of April in
each and every year after the passage of this act; or if from
any cause they should be prevented from meeting on that
day, then at their next meeting thereafter they shall ap-
point six proper persons to be styled Trustees of the Poor
for Somerset county, two of whom shall be residents of the,
first commissioners district, two of the second commission-
ers district, and two of the third commissioners district of
said county, any four of whom shall be a quorum to transact
business; and the said trustees of the poor, when appointed
as aforesaid, shall qualify by taking the oaths which were
required by law to be taken by trustees of the poor of So-
merset county previous to the passage of the act of De-
cember session, eighteen hundred and thirty-eight, chapter
one hundred and nine; and when they shall have qualified
as aforesaid, they shall be invested with all the powers, au-
thority and jurisdiction which were possessed by the trus-
tees of the poor of said county immediately before the pas-
sage of the said act, and shall continue in office until their
successors shall be appointed and shall have qualified.

Compensation.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That the said trustees of the
poor shall be entitled to receive two dollars per day for
each and every day they shall necessarily be engaged in at-
tending to the duties of their office.

No trustee to be
concerned in
furnishing alms-
house with any
article.

SEC. 3. And be it enacted, That no trustee of the poor
of Somerset county shall be directly or indirectly concern-
ed in furnishing any article required for the use of the alms
house of Somerset county, under the penalty of five hun-
dred dollars, to be recovered by an action at law in the
county court of said county, in the name of the State, one
half for the use of the informer, the other half for the use
of the said county.

Repealed.

SEC. 4. And be it enacted, That the ninth section of the
act of December session, eighteen hundred and thirty-eight,
chapter one hundred anil nine, be and the same is hereby
repealed.
