CHAPTER 422
(Senate Bill 66)

AN ACT to repeal Article 1A of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1939 Edition and 1947 Supplement), title "Aero-
nautics", and to enact in lieu thereof a new Article 1A, to
be. under the title "Aeronautics", and to stand in the place
and stead of the Article so repealed, relating generally to
the State Aviation Commission of Maryland, its powers,
authority and responsibility, and to aviation and aero-
nautical matters throughout this State.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Article 1A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1939 Edition and 1947 Supplement), title "Aeronautics", be
and the same is hereby repealed, and that a new Article 1A
be and it is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to be under the
title "Aeronautics", to stand in the place and stead of the
Article so repealed, and to read as follows.

AERONAUTICS

DEFINITIONS AND POLICY

1. (Definitions. ) As used in this Act, unless the context
otherwise requires:

(a) "Aeronautics" means the science and art of flight and
including but not limited to transportation by aircraft; the
operation, construction, repair or maintenance of aircraft,
aircraft power plants and accessories, including the repair,
packing and maintenance of parachutes; the design, establish-
ment, construction, extension, operation, improvement, repair,
or maintenance of airports or other air navigation facilities;
and instruction in flying or ground subjects pertaining thereto.

(b) "Aircraft" means any contrivance now known, or here-
after invented, used or designed for navigation of or flight in
the air.

(c) "Airport" means any area of land or water which is
used, or intended for use, for the landing and take-off of air-
craft, and any appurtenant areas which are used, or intended
for use, for airport buildings or other airport facilities or
rights-of-way, together with all airport buildings and facili-
ties located thereon.

(d) "Commission" means the State Aviation Commission
of Maryland.
