may be inmates of said Almshouse, or those who thereafter
may be committed thereto, at a cost not exceeding Two
Hundred Dollars each per annum. The County Commis-
sioners may sell or let any part of said almshouse property
except the almshouse itself on any terms and for any period
as the County Commissioners may think desirable, so long
as the efficient use of the almshouse for the maintenance and
support of paupers is not thereby impaired. Any sales or
leases of such property made in the past by the County
Commissioners are hereby expressly ratified and confirmed.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

(House Bill 503)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 19 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "St.
Mary's County", said section to be under a new sub-title
"Fire Companies", and to be known as Section 72, to follow
immediately after Section 71 of said Article, relating to
payments by the County Commissioners to active volunteer
fire departments in St. Mary's County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
19 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edi-
tion), title "St. Mary's County", said section to be under a
new sub-title "Fire Companies", and to be known as Section
72, to follow immediately after Section 71 of said Article, and
to read as follows:
FIRE COMPANIES
72. The County Commissioners are authorized to pay
annually from general county funds to each active volunteer
fire company in St. Mary's County a sum not exceeding
1700. 00 per company.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.
