Anne Arundel County (1947 Edition) sub-title "Annapolis",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follow:

24. There shall be appointed every four years, by the
Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis, accounting
from June 1, 1949, a discreet and capable person, a resident
in said City for at least three consecutive years next preceding
the date of his appointment, who shall be styled the Police
Commissioner of the City of Annapolis, and his term of
office shall be for a period of four years and until his successor
is duly appointed and qualified. He shall be subject to removal
by the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis for
official misconduct or incompetency, provided that he shall be
served with a copy of the charges and specifications, in writ-
ing, at least five days before a hearing thereon shall be had.
The said Commissioner shall not be eligible to an elective
office during the term for which he was appointed. The said
Mayor and Aldermen of the City of Annapolis shall pay a
salary to the said Commissioner not exceeding the sum of Six
Hundred Dollars ($600. 00) per annum. There shall be appro-
priated each year One Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($150. 00)
as a contingent fund for the said Police Commissioner, to be
expended for traveling expenses or for such other purposes as
said Commissioner may, is his discretion, deem desirable and
necessary in the public interests; and the said fund shall be
paid by the Treasurer of the City of Annapolis upon the order
of the said Police Commissioner without the approval of any
other official or officials, anything in the Charter or ordinances
of said City to the contrary notwithstanding. But before said
Commissioner shall proceed to act, he shall take the oath of
office that is prescribed by the Constitution of the State of
Maryland before the Mayor and City Council of Annapolis,

SEC. 2. And ~be> it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.
