(f) To make and maintain public improvements and to
acquire property within or without the corporate limits
necessary for such improvements.

(g) To provide by ordinance for the establishment of build-
ing lines and building regulations and for the licensing, taxing
and regulating all useful trades and occupations and all
amusements and theatrical exhibitions for the purpose of
raising revenue to meet current expenses of the Town, as
well as for the purpose of proper protection of the health,
good order and peace of the Town.

(h) The Mayor and Town Council may annually appoint
such town officers and employees, including a Corporation
Counsel, as they deem necessary, at such compensation or
without compensation and for such duration of time not to
exceed two years, as they may think proper.

(i) They may by ordinance cause such licenses to be issued
and grant franchises to public and quasi-public corporations
as the State laws may permit.

(j) The Mayor and Town Council shall, within the Town
limits, have the same powers as the Maryland State Board of
Health.

(k) They shall have full power to impose such fines, penal-
ties and punishments for the breach of their ordinances as
they may think proper, not to exceed One Hundred Dollars
($100. 00) fine and thirty (30) days in jail, besides costs.
They may recover said fines and costs by an action of debt,
and in addition thereto, may imprison the offender until the
fine be paid, not exceeding thirty (30) days, imprisonment to
be in the Town lock-up, if one be provided, or in the County
jail, and the Superintendent of the Prince George's County
Police and/or the Sheriff of Prince George's County shall
receive and confine any person so committed.

204. The Mayor and Town Council of Cheverly, a munici-
pal corporation, is hereby authorized and empowered to pro-
vide means for the collection and removal of garbage, trash,
rubbish and other refuse matter from within the limits of the
Town of Cheverly, whenever in its discretion it believes the
public health and safety of the residents of the Town of
Cheverly require the same or the public necessity warrants
the same, said garbage and/or ash and/or trash collection
and disposal service to be established and maintained by said
Mayor and Town Council of Cheverly, Maryland, either as
a municipal operation or by contract with such person, firm
or corporation as may be satisfactory to the said Mayor and
