at least twelve months next preceding said election, commis-
sioner; the person so elected shall serve for a term of three
years; each of said three commissioners shall receive a salary
of one hundred dollars a year.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

CHAPTER 78
(House Bill 142)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-sec-
tion (1) of Section 37B of Article 87 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-
title "Compensation and Duties", relating to the com-
pensation and duties of the Sheriff of Harford County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sub-section (1) of Section 37B of Article 87 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title
"Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties", be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

37B.

(1) The Sheriff of Harford County shall receive an annual
salary of $3, 600. He shall appoint such deputies and at
such compensation as may be provided by the County Com-
missioners of said County.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this Act
shall be construed to affect the compensation of the Sheriff
in office at the time this Act becomes effective during the
period for which he was elected.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.
