violation of this sub-title especially declared to be a mis-
demeanor by any provision thereof shall be punished by
a fine not less than one hundred dollars, nor more than
five hundred dollars, or by imprisonment not exceeding
one year, unless otherwise specially provided herein.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1949.

CHAPTER 306

(Senate Bill 500)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
100 (Kent County) and Section 104 of Article 52 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title
"Justices of the Peace, " sub-title "Trial Magistrates'
System, " increasing the compensation of the trial magis-
trate and clerk to said magistrate in Kent County.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 100 (Kent County) and Section 104 of Article
52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement),
title "Justices of the Peace, " sub-title "Trial Magistrates'
System, " be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

100.

(Kent County. ) There shall be one Trial Magistrate
who shall sit at Chestertown and who shall receive an an-
nual salary of $1, 800. 00. The Sheriff of Kent County
and his deputies are hereby authorized, directed and re-
quired to serve all civil and criminal process issued by said
Magistrate.

104. (Clerks. ) The County Commissioners shall pro-
vide such clerical assistance, and pay such compensation
therefor, as said Commissioners may deem reasonably
necessary for any trial magistrate. The appointment of
clerical assistants shall be made by the trial magistrate to
be thus served, when provision therefor is made by the
County Commissioners; except that in Montgomery, Alle-
gany, Baltimore, Carroll and Prince George's Counties
such clerical assistants shall be appointed by the County
