(d). The money borrowed under authority of this sec-
tion shall only be used for street improvements such as
the widening and improvement of streets, the construction
or repair of curbs, gutters, etc.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency measure and necessary
for the immediate preservation of the public health and
safety and having been passed by a yea and nay vote,
supported by three-fifths of all the members elected to
each of the two Houses of the General Assembly, the same
shall take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 224
(Senate Bill 190)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tion 17 of Article 89 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1947 Supplement), title "Department of Labor
and Industry, " sub-title "Bureau of Mines, " requiring
the main office of the Bureau of Mines to be located in
Allegany or Garrett County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 17 of Article 89 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Department of Labor
and Industry, " sub-title "Bureau of Mines, " be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
17. There is hereby created under the Department of
Geology, Mines and Water Resources a Bureau to be known
as the "Bureau of Mines, " hereinafter referred to as the
Bureau. The main office of the Bureau shall be located in
either Garrett or Allegany County. The precise location
shall be selected by the Director of the Bureau of Mines,
with the approval of the Governor.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1949.
