said Court who shall each be an expert stenographer, shall be
a sworn officer of said court, shall hold office during the
pleasure of the judges of said court, and shall each be paid a
per, diem of Twenty Dollars ($20. 00) for each and every day
of actual service, and mileage at the rate of seven cents (7^)
per mile, payable by the County, as a part of the court ex-
penses, upon the presentation of the certificate of the Clerk,
or of any of the Judges of said court, showing the attendance
and services of said stenographer.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the
immediate preservation of the public health and safety and
having been passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-
fifths of all the members elected to each of the two Houses
of the General Assembly of Maryland, the same shall take
effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 189
(House Bill 462)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-section
(a) of Section 496 of Article 1 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Allegany County",
sub-title "Potomac Park Addition", as enacted by Chapter
843 of the Acts of 1947, relating to the tax rate in the
Potomac Park Addition.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sub-section (a) of Section 496 of Article 1 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Allegany County", sub-title "Potomac Park Addition", as
enacted by Chapter 843 of the Acts of 1947, be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

496. (a) The Board of County Commissioners of Allegany
County are authorized, empowered and directed to levy and
cause to be collected from the property (Owners, at the time
of the County Tax Levy for the year 1948, or any succeeding
year, within said described area of Potomac Park Addition
as created in this sub-title, such amounts not exceeding
twenty cents on each one hundred dollars' worth of assess-
able property in said part of the Potomac Park Addition,
