(House Bill 222)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
1279 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's
County (Flack's Edition, 1943), sub-title "Sheriff", to in-
crease the number of guards to the jail from two to three.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 1279 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Prince George's County (Flack's Edition, 1943), sub-title
"Sheriff", be, and the same is hereby, repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
1279. The Sheriff of Prince George's County shall have the
power to appoint three persons as guards to the jail in
said county and whenever in his judgment and in the judg-
ment of the County Commissioners such guard or guards may
be deemed necessary for the safekeeping of persons confined
in said jail.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted,. That this Act shall take
effect on July 1, 1949.

CHAPTER 159
(House Bill 223)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
102, 103 and 107 of Article 21 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Conveyancing", sub-
title "Defective Conveyances", to make valid deeds, mort-
gages, bonds of conveyances, bills of sale, and all other
conveyances of real and personal property, or of any
interest therein or agreements relating thereto, defective in
acknowledgment or in the certificate thereof, or when the
official character of the officer taking the acknowledgment
has not been stated in the body of the certificate or certified
to, as required by law, or when the conveyance or agree-
ment has not been witnessed or sealed, or when any deed
heretofore made to or from a corporation prior to the pay-
ment of bonus tax which was afterwards paid, or any
mortgage or assignment of mortgage defectively sworn to
or not sworn to at all.
