in convenient form and in the case of taxicabs shall recite the
manufacturer's engine number and any other identifying de-
scription or information as the Department may prescribe,
and in the case of commercial motor vehicles for hire shall
recite the factory identification for such makes of vehicles as
are so identified or the factory serial number for such makes
of vehicles as are so identified until the manufacturers thereof
adopt and use an identification number only, and shall apply
only to the vehicle for which it is issued.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

CHAPTER 742
(House Bill 562)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections
1 and 2 of Article 67 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1939 Edition), title "Negligence Causing Death", provid-
ing for a lien against vessels which have wrongfully caused
death.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by tine General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Sections 1 and 2 of Article 67 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Negligence Causing
Death", be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

1. Whenever the death of a person shall be caused by
wrongful act, neglect or default, and the act, neglect or de-
fault is such as would (if death had not ensued) h^ve entitled
the party injured to maintain an action and recover damages
in respect thereof, the vessel or person who would have been
liable if death had not ensued, or the executor or adminis-
trator of the said person who would have been liable in case
of the death of the said person who would have been liable,
shall be liable to an action for damages, notwithstanding the
death of the person injured, and although the death shall have
been caused under such circumstances as amount in law to
felony and if death ensues as a result of wrongful act, neglect
or default of a vessel, suit may be brought in rem against
said vessel in any court of competent jurisdiction; provided,
however, that any such action against the executor or ad-
ministrator of the said person who would have been liable
