(7) The Register of Wills of Allegany and Washington
Counties shall each be entitled to receive the annual salary
of $4, 800.
(8) The Register of Wills of Baltimore County shall be
entitled to receive an annual salary of $4, 800 until Decem-
ber 1, 1950, and thereafter he shall receive an annual
salary of $7, 500.
The salary first fixed by the Board of Public Works for
the Register of Wills of Baltimore City and the salaries
fixed by this section for the Registers of Wills of the sev-
eral counties shall commence as of the beginning of the
term of office of the present incumbent and shall not be
increased or decreased during the term of office of any
incumbent.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1949.

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 87 of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition and 1947 Supple-
ment), title "Sheriffs", said new section to be known as
Section 53, to follow immediately after Section 52 of
said Article and to be under the sub-title "Deputy
Sheriffs", relating to the retirement of Deputy Sheriffs
in this State.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article 87
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition and
1947 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", said new section to be
known as Section 53, to follow immediately after Section
52 of said Article and to be under the sub-title "Deputy
Sheriffs", and to read as follows:
53. Each Deputy Sheriff in this State shall be deemed
an appointed official within the meaning of Section 7 of
Article 73B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947
Supplement), and any amendments thereto, and shall be
treated as such for all purposes of said Article 73B; pro-
vided, however, that the provisions of this Act shall apply
only to Washington County.
