(House Bill 787)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 25 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "County Com-
missioners", sub-title "General Provisions", said new sec-
tion to be known as Section 2D, and to follow immediately
after Section 2C of said Article, granting certain powers
to the County Commissioners to supplement the amount
paid to retired teachers and exempting Baltimore County
from the provisions of this Act,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
25 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement),
title "County Commissioners", sub-title "General Provisions",
said new section to be known as Section 2D, to follow immedi-
ately after Section 2C of said Article, and to read as follows:

2D. The County Commissioners of the several counties shall
have the power and authority, in their discretion, to pay to
any school teacher of their county who is retired and who is
receiving any retirement benefits under the provisions of other
laws, where such benefits in the aggregate are less than $100. 00
per month, an additional sum not exceeding $25. 00 per month
upon application to the County Commissioners, and said Com-
missioners shall annually levy an amount sufficient to pay
such additional benefits. Provided that the sum granted to
any applicant by the said County Commissioners shall be such
that when added to whatever any such person is receiving as
retirement pay under other laws, the total shall not exceed
One Hundred Dollars per month. Provided, further, that
nothing in this section shall be construed to apply to or have
any application in Baltimore County.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.
