1474 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 612

re-enact, with amendments, Section 736 of said Article and
title, as amended by Chapter 975 of the Acts of the General
Assembly of Maryland of 1945, relating to the appointment
and duties of Justices of the Peace in Baltimore City.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 722 of Article 4 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland and Baltimore City Charter (1938 Edition),
title "Baltimore City", sub-title "Justices of the Peace and
Constables", as said section was amended by Chapters 975
and 1052 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of
1945, be and the same is hereby repealed, and that a new sec-
tion be and it is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, said new sec-
tion to be known as Section 722, to follow immediately after
Section 721 of said Article, and to read as follows:

722. It shall be the duty of the Governor, after the appoint-
ment of the Justices of the Peace provided for in Section 712
of this said Article 4, to select from the Justices of the Peace so
appointed a Justice of the Peace to sit at each station-house
in the City of Baltimore, and in addition, three Justices of
the Peace to be known as Magistrates-at-Large, or such other
number of Justices of the Peace as may be by law hereafter
provided for, to act at such times and places as is hereinafter
provided for. One of the Justices so selected shall be desig-
nated by the Governor as "Chief Police Magistrate of Balti-
more City", and the others shall be each designated by the
Governor as "Police Magistrate of Baltimore City". The said
Chief Police Magistrate of Baltimore City, in addition to his
duties as a Justice of the Peace regularly assigned to sit in a
station-house, shall also be and act as the Chief or adminis-
trative head over all the other Police Magistrates of Balti-
more City; he shall call meetings of all the regular and sub-
stitute Police Magistrates, from time to time, to discuss and
further the improvement in the efficient administration of
justice and which shall be delegated to him by law hereafter.
Each justice so selected shall keep his office at the station-
house for which he was appointed, and shall attend at such
station-house from 8 o'clock A. M. until 10 o'clock A. M. on
every day of the year except Sundays and legal holidays, and
from 3 o'clock P. M. until 5 P. M. on every day except Sundays
and legal holidays; and upon every Sunday and legal holiday
shall attend at the station-house for which he was appointed
from 9 o'clock A. M. until 11 o'clock A. M. (and for the pur-
pose of this section Saturday afternoon shall not be con-
sidered a legal holiday unless the whole of said Saturday
may be a legal holiday), and at each of said respective sittings
shall sit to hear, try and determine cases, and to perform all
the duties which he is required by law to perform. The said
