SEC. 2. And ~be> it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

(House Bill 457)
AN ACT to add a new section to Article 20 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Som-
erset County", sub-title "Crisfield", said new section to be
known as Section 98A and to follow immediately after
Section 98 of said Article, creating the office of Fire Mar-
shal for Crisfield, prescribing his powers and duties and
conferring authority upon the Mayor and Council of Cris-
field to make rules and regulations in connection with the
office of Fire Marshal and fire hazards.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
20 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Somerset County", sub-title "Crisfield", said
new section to be known as Section 98A, to follow immediately
after Section 98 of said Article and to read as follows:
98A. (a) The Office of Fire Marshal for Crisfield is hereby
created. The Fire Marshal shall be appointed by the Mayor of
Crisfield and confirmed by the City Council as are other
municipal appointments and paid such compensation as said
Mayor and Council shall determine, and may be removed by
said Mayor and Council for incompetence, neglect of duty or
other cause as said officials in their discretion shall determine.
(b) The Fire Marshal shall have power to inspect buildings
of all kinds for the purpose of discovering fire hazards and to
enforce the rules and regulations adopted by the Mayor and
Council of Crisfield.
(c) The Mayor and Council of Crisfield are hereby author-
ized and empowered to adopt and promulgate such rules and
regulations as they may, in their discretion, determine to be
necessary to protect the public from fire hazards and other
dangers due to unsafe and dangerous conditions with respect
to any and all buildings in the City of Crisfield. Such regu-
lations may provide for the repair or removal of dangerous
structures, the removal of trash and other materials which
