CHAPTER 493
(Senate Bill 452)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tion 9A of Article 13 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1947 Supplement), title "Bills of Exchange and
Promissory Notes", sub-title "Legal Holidays", elim-
inating Wicomico County from the list of Counties to
which said section does not apply.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 9A of Article 13 of the Annotated Code Mary-
land (1947 Supplement), title "Bills of Exchange and
Promissory Notes", sub-title "Legal Holidays", be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

9A. It shall be lawful for any banking institution as
defined in Article 11 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land to remain closed on any one or more or all Saturdays,
as it may by resolution of its board of directors determine,
from time to time. Any Saturday on which any bank-
ing institution shall remain closed in accordance with
the provisions of this section shall, as to such bank-
ing institution, constitute a legal holiday within the
meaning of such term as used in and for all purposes of
Section 9 of this Article. Interest on any bill of exchange,
draft or promissory note presentable for payment on any
Saturday on which such banking institution shall re-
main closed in accordance with the provisions of this sec-
tion shall be computed down to and including any such
Saturday only, provided such bill of exchange, draft or
promissory note is presented on the next succeeding sec-
ular day.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to Caro-
line, Queen Anne's, Somerset and Worcester Counties.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1949.
