who shall receive an annual salary of $1, 200 and he shall
also be allowed not exceeding $5, 000 per year for all
expenses of his office of every kind, including automobile
mileage allowance, necessary deputies and clerical assist-
ance; and he shall also be allowed not exceeding $1, 200
per year for an additional Deputy Sheriff.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1949'.

CHAPTER 474

(Senate Bill 396)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sub-
sections (a), (d), (e) and (f) of Section 347 of Article
23 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947 Supple-
ment), title "Corporations", sub-title "Public Service
Commission", relating to the terms of office and salaries
of the Chairman and members of the Public Service
Commission, the general counsel to the Public Service
Commission, and the People's Counsel.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That sub-sections (a) and (d) of Section 347 of Article
23 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947 Supplement),
title "Corporations", sub-title "Public Service Commis-
sion", be and the same are hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

347.

(a) There shall be a public service commission, and
the same is hereby created and established, which said
public service commission shall be vested with and pos-
sessed of the powers and duties in this sub-title specified,
and also all powers necessary or proper to enable it to carry
out fully and effectually all the purpose of this sub-title.

The said public service commission shall consist of three
members, all of whom shall be appointed by the Governor,
one of whom shall be designated by the Governor to be
and, upon so being designated, shall be the Chairman of
said commission.

Each commissioner, at the time of his appointment and
qualification, shall be a resident of the State of Maryland,
