SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect from the first day of June, 1949.

(Senate Bill 387)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
44 of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1947 Supplement), title "Elections", sub-title "Nomi-
nations and Primaries", changing the time within which
certificates of nomination may be filed for President
and Vice-President of the United States and for electors
of President and Vice-President.
SECTION!. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 44 of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Elections", sub-title
"Nominations and Primaries", be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
44. Except in cases provided for by Section 48 and
cases of special election to fill vacancies in office caused by
death, resignation or otherwise, and except in cases of
nominations which are made at the primary election, and
except in cases of nominations for President and Vice-
President of the United States or for electors of President
and Vice-President, such certificates of nomination shall
be filed respectively with the Secretary of State in cases
of nominations for State-wide offices, and in cases of
nominations for offices where the certificate is required
to be filed with the Supervisors of Elections, with the
Board of Supervisors of Elections not later than fifteen
days before the day on which the primary election is held
or should be held under the primary election law;. In cases
of nominations for President and Vice-President of the
United States or for electors of President and Vice-Presi-
dent such certificates shall be filed with the Secretary of
State not later than the fifteenth day of September next
preceding the date fixed for the election of such officers.
Within thirty days after the filing of any such petition,
the Secretary of State, in cases of nomination petitions
filled with him, shall cause to be published at least once
in a daily newspaper of general circulation throughout the
State the names of all signers of any such petition together
