arrest be taken before, and in case of bailable offenses, be held
to bail by any justice of the peace in any such county or city;
but such presentment, indictment and trial shall be in the
same county and city in which such justice of the peace
shall be.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.

(House Bill 11)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section
48 of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1947
Supplement), title "Health", sub-title "Miscellaneous Pro-
visions", eliminating the provision as to the basis for fixing
the compensation for county health officers.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 48 of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1947 Supplement), title "Health", sub-title "Mis-
cellaneous Provisions", be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
48. The Local Board of Health of each County shall meet
semi-annually in the months of May and October, and as much
oftener as they may deem necessary; they shall act in con-
junction with the State Board of Health and shall report to
said board such facts in reference to the sanitary conditions
of their respective counties as they may deem important or
necessary; they may adopt and enforce all needful rules and
regulations concerning nuisances and causes of sickness within
their respective jurisdiction subject to the provisions of this
Article; they may regulate all fees and charges in connection
with their own regulations and shall establish the salaries of
their respective county health officers.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1949.
