The Board of Public Works, in fixing the annual salary
of the Register of Wills of Baltimore City, shall be guided
in the exercise of its discretion in regard thereto, by the
population of said City, determined by the last official
United States Census, by the current representation of
said City in the House of Delegates of Maryland, by the
dollar volume of total fees and taxes collected and of excess
fees turned over to the State for each of the preceding five
(5) years by the office of the Register of Wills for Balti-
more City and by other pertinent data which has relation
to the reasonableness of the salary in relation to the work
done and volume handled by the office, it being the intent
of this Act that the said Registrant shall receive a fair
and adequate compensation for the effort and duties re-
quired of him by his office and the volume and character
of work done by him as Register in proportion to the
salary fixed by the Legislature for other Registers of Wills
in this State.

The Register of Wills of the several counties of the State
shall be entitled to receive annually the respective salaries
hereinafter set forth and no more as follows:

The Register of Wills for Calvert County shall be en-
titled to receive $2, 500 annually.

The Register of Wills for Caroline, Charles, Howard,
Wicomico, Worcester, St. Mary's and Somerset Counties
shall each be entitled to receive the annual salary of $3, 000.

The Register of Wills of Garrett County shall be entitled
to receive the annual salary of $3, 200.

The Register of Wills of Dorchester, Harford, Kent,
Frederick, Queen Anne's, Cecil and Talbot Counties shall
each be entitled to receive the annual salary of $3, 600.

The Registers of Wills of Anne Arundel and Prince
George's Counties shall each be entitled to receive the an-
nual salary of $4, 000.

The Register of Wills of Carroll County shall be entitled
to receive the annual salary of $4, 200.

The Register of Wills of Baltimore, Montgomery, Al-
legany and Washington Counties shall each be entitled to
receive the annual salary of $4, 800.

The salary first fixed by the Board of Public Works for
the Register of Wills of Baltimore City and the salaries
fixed by this section for the Registers of Wills of the
several counties shall commence as of the beginning of the
term of office of the present incumbents and shall not be
increased or decreased during the term of office of any in-
cumbent.

The salaries of the Registers of Wills shall be payable
semi-monthly from the fees, receipts and emoluments of
