SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article 96
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1943 Supplement), title
"United States", sub-title "Retention of Jurisdiction by the
State", said new section to be known as Section 42, to follow
immediately after Section 41 of said Article and to read as
follows:
42. Notwithstanding anything contained in any section or
sections of this Article or of any other Article of the Code of
Public General Laws to the contrary, the State of Maryland
and every political sub-division thereof and all agencies or
taxing units thereof, are hereby authorized and empowered to
take any and all action that may be necessary or proper to re-
ceive and collect from the United States any and all money that
may be made available by the United States to reimburse the
State of Maryland or any political sub-division thereof, or any
agency or taxing unit thereof, for any and all taxes or other
charges which may have been lost by reason of the United Slates
or any department, corporation or agency thereof having ac-
quired in any way any title to any property, real, personal or
mixed, located in the State of Maryland.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That any and all public
general laws or public local laws or any part or parts thereof
inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are hereby repealed
to the extent of such inconsistency.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency law and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety, and being
passed by a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all
the members elected to each of the two Houses of the General
Assembly, the same shall take effect from the date of its
passage.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 17
of Article 64A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1943
Supplement), title "Merit System", authorizing the State
Employees Standard Salary Board to establish fixed salaries
and wage rates for a limited period, in certain cases.
