SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
take effect June 1, 1945.

CHAPTER 728.

AN ACT to authorize the Board of Public Works to collect,
compile and publish the records of residents of Maryland
who aided in the prosecution of the present war.
WHEREAS, it is extremely desirable that the State of
Maryland have permanent records of the achievements of
its sons and daughters during the present great conflict;
therefore
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Board of Public Works be and it is hereby auth-
orized to collect, compile and publish, or make provision
for the collection, compilation and publishing of, the re-
cords of all residents of Maryland who served in any of
the Armed Forces of the United States in the present war \
or in any of the agencies which were closely affiliated with
the said Armed Forces or who otherwise rendered con-
spicuous public service in the war effort, whether in con-
nection with a public agency or private agency or organ-
ization, and to arrange or to make arrangements for keep-
ing such records in some permanent place for future ref-
erence. The final disposition of the records shall be de-
termined by the said Board of Public Works.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That it shall be the
duty of all officials, agencies and organizations in Maryland
to transfer to the Board of Public Works all of their data,
papers and documents of every description which may be
needed by said Board, or the organization selected by said
Board for this purpose, for compiling said records, and
where this is not feasible, to make such data, papers and
documents available for the purpose of compiling said re-
cords.
SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the said Board
of Public Works shall have full and complete authority to
appoint such persons as it may deem necessary to perform
the duties imposed by this Act and to prescribe their com-
