748 LAWS OF MARYLAND. [CH. 674

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 466 of Article 2 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Anne Arundel
County", sub-title "Sheriff", be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

466. The Sheriff shall be allowed a warden to the jail to be
appointed by the Sheriff. The warden shall receive a salary of
Seventy-five Dollars per month to be paid by the County Com-
missioners each month. The Sheriff shall receive an allowance
of Twenty-five Dollars per month for wages of the cook for the
prisoners in jail and an allowance of Sixty Dollars per month
for a night guard for said jail. The Sheriff shall be allowed
the sum of Twenty-five Dollars per month for clerical work
and record keeping at the jail, and he shall be allowed for his
actual expenditures for food, provisions and necessary supplies
furnished the prisoners confined in jail, provided the total
cost of the food so furnished shall not exceed the sum of Sixty
Cents per day for each prisoner so confined and for the
warden, the night guard and the cook, The Sheriff shall keep
an itemized account of all such expenditures and in the form
and system prescribed by the County Commissioners, and shall
make a report of such expenditures according to such form
and system to the County Commissioners at their first meeting
in every month, accompanied by a statement showing the
actual number of prisoners and attendants daily supplied
during such period; and the County Commissioners upon
examination of said account and finding the same to be correct
and within the limits herein provided, shall pay the same to
the Sheriff. The Sheriff shall be responsible for the conduct
in office of his appointees and shall have power to cancel such
appointments at any time if he deems such action necessary.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted. That this Act shall take
effect December 1, 1946.
