SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That should any section,
or part of a section, of this Act be held invalid for any reason,
such holding shall not be construed as affecting the validity of
any remaining section or part of a section, it being the legis-
lative intent that the remainder of this Act shall stand,
notwithstanding the invalidity of such section or part of a
section.

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1st, 1945.

CHAPTER 639.

(House Bill 158)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 891
of Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland
and Baltimore City Charter (1938 Edition), title "Balti-
more City", sub-title "Police Examiners", providing that no
member of the police force of Baltimore City who has served
thereon for less than five years may take an examination for
the grade of Sergeant.

SECTION 1, Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 891 of Article 4 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland and Baltimore City Charter (1938
Edition), title "Baltimore City",. sub-title "Police Examiners",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments,
to read as follows:

891. Intending competitors for appointment to said police
or for promotion therein shall file in the office of said Board of
Police Examiners, a reasonable length of time before the date
of any examination, a formal application, in which the appli-
cant shall state under oath:

1st. His full name and residence.

2nd. His age, the place and date of his birth.

3rd. His health and physical capacity for the position to
which he aspires.

4th. If an applicant for appointment, his business or em-
ployment, and residence for at least the previous three years.

5th. Such other information as may reasonably be required
touching the applicant's merit and fitness for service on or
promotion in the said police force.
