land (1930 Edition), as said section was enacted by Chapter
253 of the Acts of 1941, title "Dorchester County", sub-title
"Live Stock Running at Large", relating to livestock running
at large in Election District No. 6 of Dorchester County.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 387A of Article 10 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), as said section was
enacted by Chapter 253 of the Acts of 1941, title "Dorchester
County", sub-title "Live Stock Running at Large", be and the
same is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows: .
387A. It shall be unlawful for an cattle, swine or live stock
of any kind to run at large, without an attendant or person in
charge thereof in that part of Hooper's Island or Election Dis-
trict No. 6 which lies between Fishing Creek on the north
and the Creek separating the Lower Island from the Middle
Island on the south, in Dorchester County. It shall be the
duty of the sheriff, any deputy sheriff, any constable, or any
other peace officer of Dorchester County, to seize and impound
any cattle, swine, or live stock found at large without an
attendant or person in charge thereof, in violation of this sec-
tion, when the same are found unlawfully upon the public
roads or private property of persons not the owner of such
cattle, swine or live stock. Immediately, or within a reason-
able time thereafter, said officer seizing and impounding same,
shall cause a notice to be inserted in some newspaper published
in Dorchester County, containing a description of the same and
the location where such cattle, swine or live stock were found,
and further stating that the same will be advertised and sold
after ten days publication of such notice, if the owner fails to
claim the same, and pay in full all costs of such impounding
and seizing, and together with the amount of damage done, if
any, to the property of any individual, firm or corporation. If
no person claims any such cattle, swine or live stock, or claims
the same, or refuses or neglects to tender the costs and ex-
penses' aforesaid, within the ten days after the same shall be so
advertised, then the officer impounding and seizing the same
shall apply to a justice of the peace of the county, who upon
being satisfied that the notice heretofore directed has been
given, shall order said officer to sell the same at public auction
on ten day's notice to be set up at three public places of the
neighborhood, and after deducting from the proceeds of sale all
expenses incident to taking up and impounding, keeping, ad-
vertising and selling the same, and the amount of damages, if
any, done by such cattle, swine or live stock, the residue shall
be delivered to the justice of the peace ordering said sale, and
by him paid to the County Commissioners of Dorchester County
