with commit or bail the defendant for the action of the Grand
Jury, as in other cases.

SEC, 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.

CHAPTER 557.

(House Bill 198)

AN ACT to authorize and direct the Sheriff of Baltimore City
to pay to Mrs. Augusta Heisch, of Baltimore City, a sum
of money.

WHEREAS, Andrew C. Meyer, a Deputy Sheriff of Baltimore
City, died on January 9, 1943, as the result of injuries received
in the performance of duty; and

WHEREAS, The employees of the Sheriff are not in any
pension system, so that the hospital and medical expenses
had to be paid by his sister, Mrs. Augusta Heisch; therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That the Sheriff of Baltimore City be and he is hereby
authorized and directed to pa}^ to Mrs. Augusta Heisch the
sum of Two Hundred and Seventy-Two Dollars ($272. 00) for
hospital and medical expenses paid by her in connection with
the injuries received by her brother, Andrew C. Meyer, in the
performance of duty, the said payment to be made out of any
funds or fees in the hands of said Sheriff.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.
