who shall perform such duties as may be required of them
by the Mayor and Town Council, and who shall preserve the
peace and good order of the town. They may make arrests
for the violation of the public, general and public local laws
as well as the ordinances of the town, and shall have authority
to retain custody outside of the town, over persons arrested,
which are in the course of being taken to a Justice of the
Peace or to jail.

Section 16. There may be appointed a Health Officer for
said town who shall be a licensed physician, and who shall
enforce the ordinances of the town with respect to health and
sanitation, and who shall have all of the power granted to
local health officers by the Code of Public General Laws of
Maryland.

Section 17. Before entering upon the duties of his office, the
Mayor shall take the Constitutional Oath of Office before the
Clerk of the Circuit Court or one of his deputies, and all other
elective and appointive officers shall, before entering upon the
duties of their office, take the Constitutional Oath of Office
before the Mayor, and the certificate of all oaths shall be filed
with the Town Clerk and shall become a part of the records
of the Town.

Section 18. All persons elected or appointed to any mu-
nicipal office shall hold their respective offices or positions
until the new Mayor and Council is sworn in after each elec-
tion, and until their successors are appointed and qualified,
unless suspended or removed from office as provided in Chap-
ter 88 of the Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland of
1939.

Section 19. The Treasurer andor special officers shall
give bond to the Mayor and Town Council in such penalty and
with such sureties as the Mayor and Town Council may re-
quire, conditioned upon the faithful performance of the duties
of their respective offices, and to account for all funds of the
town which may come into their hands.

Section 20. The Mayor and Town Council shall have power
to grade and re-grade streets, sidewalks, alleys and roadways
and to improve or pave the same; to develop park areas, install
street lights, and provide for fire protection.

Section 21. The Mayor and Town Council is hereby em-
powered and authorized to construct roadbeds, sidewalks,
curbs, gutters, and street improvements, or any or all, in the
Town of Landover Hills, in such cases as it may determine
