HERBERT R. O'CONOR, GOVERNOR. 365

the United States Merchant Marine from the requirement
for securing a hunting and fishing license.

WHEREAS, many men in the Armed Forces of the United
States, in the United States Maritime Service and the
United States Merchant Marine have a few days leave
during which time they would like to hunt or fish; and

WHEREAS, it seems desirable that they should have the
privilege of hunting and fishing without the necessity of
securing a license; therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That persons in the Armed Forces of the United States, in
the United States Merchant Marine and the United States
Maritime Service shall be furnished a gratis hunting or
fishing license valid only during the open season, through
the Clerks of the Courts of the respective counties and the
Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas of Baltimore City;
said licenses shall be furnished and countersigned by the
Game Warden to the Clerks of Courts without cost. There
shall be no charge by said Clerks for issuing same. The
Clerks of the Courts shall forward on the first of each
month the stub from each license issued to persons in the
armed forces gratis to the Game and Inland Fish Com-
mission, Baltimore, Maryland, in the same manner as they
report the sale of hunting and fishing licenses at present.

This privilege shall be extended only to persons of the
armed forces who shall appear before the Clerk of the
Court in the uniform of their respective service, present
their credentials showing their status and while hunting
or fishing must have the credentials on their person for
inspection by the State Game Warden, any Deputy Game
Warden, or any other person.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall
continue for the duration of the present war.

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is
hereby declared to be an emergency measure and necessary
for the immediate preservation of the public health and
safety and having been passed by a yea and nay vote, sup-
ported by three-fifths of all of the members elected to each
of the two Houses of the General Assembly, the same shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

Approved March 29, 1945.
