NO. 15.
(Senate Joint Resolution 14)
A Joint Resolution requesting the Governor to include the
sum of Seventy-Five Thousand Dollars ($75, 000. ) in the
Supplemental Budget for the construction of an armory
at Charlotte Hall, St. Mary's County, or, if such con-
struction is impossible, requesting the Department of
Public Works to undertake the construction of the
armory as a post-war project.
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the General
Assembly of Maryland that there is at present no armory
within the area embraced by St. Mary's, Charles and Cal-
vert Counties; and
WHEREAS, such an armory is needed to provide a place
wherein the National Guard, the State Guard and the
Reserve Militia (Minute Men) can drill and hold exercises;
. and
WHEREAS, such an Armory would also provide a con-
venient meeting place for the holding of patriotic meetings
and would be useful to the schools in the vicinity for gym-
nastics and Athletic exercises; and
WHEREAS, the construction of such an armory would
provide useful employment and additional income to the
people of this State; and
WHEREAS, it seems desirable that such an armory be
built at Charlotte Hall as soon as possible and if such im-
mediate construction is impossible because of the wartime
shortage of building materials that the construction of the.
armory be 'undertaken by the Department of Public Works
as a post-war project; now therefore
Be it resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the Governor be requested to include the sum of
Seventy-five Thousand Dollars ($75, 000. ) in the Supple-
mental Budget for the construction of an armory at Char-
lotte Hall, St. Mary's County; or if such construction is
at present impossible, that the Department of Public Works
be requested to undertake the construction of the armory
as a post-war project.
