ized and directed temporarily to increase the compensation of
all officers and employees of the Almshouse of said County,
such increase to be in an amount equal to twenty (20) per
centum, of the compensation received by such persons as are
employed pursuant to the provisions of Section 1 of Article 1
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition),
title "Allegany County", sub-title "Almshouse".

SEC. 3. And be it further enacted, That the County Com-
missioners of Allegany County be and they are hereby author-
ized and directed to increase the compensation of all officers
and employees of the insane asylum of said county, such
increase to be in an amount equal to twenty (20) per centum
of the compensation received by such persons pursuant to the
provisions of Section 290 of Article 1 of the Code of Public,
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Allegany
County", sub-title "Insane Asylum".

SEC. 4. And be it further enacted, That the temporary in-
creases in compensation provided for by this Act shall in all
instances be based and computed upon the amounts being
regularly received as compensation on June 1, 1945. Such
temporary increases shall be paid at the same times and in
the same manner as all employees concerned now receive their
regular salaries or wages.

SEC. 5. And be it further enacted, That the temporary in-
creases provided in this Act shall continue to be paid for the
duration of the present war between the United States and
Germany and Japan, and during any prolongation thereof
with either of such nations or with another nation; and for six
months after the termination of any such war by the signing
of a definite treaty of peace or by a proclamation by the
President of the United States that the war emergency is
ended, whichever event shall first occur.

SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.

of Article 38 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, title
