of its agencies any gift, advance or loan which, in the opinion
of said Commission, may be advantageous as a contribution or
advance on the cost of the construction provided for in Section
2 hereof, and the said Commission and its officers are author-
ized to enter into any contract or agreement with the Govern-
ment of the United States or any of its agencies for the purpose
of effecting any such gift, advance or loan.
SEC. 6. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 2 of the Code of Pub-
lic Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Anne
Arundel County", sub-title "Police Department", said new
section to be follow immediately after Section 406 1/2 of said
Article and to be known as Section 406 1/2A, relating to
salaries of the personnel of the Anne Arundel County Police
Force.
WHEREAS, rising living costs have made inadequate the sal-
aries now provided by law for the personnel of the Anne
Arundel County Police Force, and until such costs again are
reduced to normal it is just that said salaries shall be. in-
creased to the extent of available funds; now, therefore,
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section is hereby added to Article 2 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Anne Arundel County", sub-title "Police Department", said
new section to follow immediately after Section 406 1/2 of said
Article, to be known as Section 406 1/2A, and to read as follows:
406 1/2A. For two years from June 1, 1945, all salaries of the
Anne Arundel County Police Force as provided in Section
406 1/2 shall be increased by not exceeding twenty-five dollars
per month, provided that this increase shall be paid only to the
extent that there are available funds in the Police Department
Surplus Account No. 280-A-3.
All pensions now being paid to former members of said
Police Force and who became retired before the present salary
scale set forth in Section 406 1/2 became effective, shall be in-
