SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 284 of Article 56 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Licenses", sub-title "Bowling
Saloons", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

284. Each person, firm or corporation who shall keep a place
for the reception of company to play at bowls wherein a fee is
charged for such bowling, shall be deemed to keep a bowling
alley, and every person, firm or corporation who shall keep a
bowling alley, shall, before transacting such business, pay for
the privilege by first taking out a license therefor, paying an
annual license fee of f25. 00 for the first alley and the addi-
tional sum of f 10. 00 for each alley exceeding one, said licenses
to be taken out in the City of Baltimore, if such alleys are
located in said city, and if located in the counties, then in each
county in which said alleys may be located; provided, however,
that no license shall exceed |1, 000. 00 for each place so con-
ducted. All licenses shall expire on the thirtieth day of April
of each year, shall be transferable and shall be prorated
monthly.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.

CHAPTER 22.
(Senate Bill 21)

AN ACT to repeal Section 22 of Article 20 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Constables", sub-
title "Police Duties of Constables", said section relating to
the appearance of constables before Grand Juries.

WHEREAS, it is not necessary to require constables to appear
before Grand Juries at each term of Court, whether there is
any need for such appearance, since the Grand Jury can, at
any time summon any constable before it; therefore

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 22 of Article 20 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Constables", sub-title "Police
Duties of Constables", be and it is hereby repealed.

SEC. 2. And be it -further enacted. That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.
