are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

512. The citizens of the Town of Edmonston are a body cor-
porate, by the name of the Mayor and Town Council of Ed-
monston, and by that name may have perpetual succession, sue
and be sued, have and use a common seal, and may purchase
and hold real, personal and mixed property, or dispose of the
same for the benefit of said town.

516. At the first election of officers held under this Charter,
after notice printed in some county newspaper, the qualified
voters of the town shall elect a Mayor and Treasurer to serve
the term of one year, and shall elect four Councilmen, two from
each ward, to be voted for by the qualified voters of each ward,
one from each ward to serve for the term of two years and one
from each ward to serve for the term of one year. At the first
meeting the Mayor and Councilmen shall designate the time to
be served by each Councilman. At each successive annual elec-
tion the qualified voters of each ward shall elect a Councilman
to serve for two years, after notice printed in some county
newspaper. Beginning with the annual election in 1935 and
thereafter, the Mayor and the Treasurer shall be elected and
hold office for the term of two years. The Mayor and Treasurer
must continually reside in said town, and each Councilman in
his respective ward during their term of office, and they shall
receive no compensation for their services.

520. The Mayor, with the approval of the majority of the
Town Council, shall appoint the following subordinate officers:
Chief of Police, Health Officer, Building Inspector, and
Clerk, who shall hold office for the period of one year, or
until their successors are appointed and qualified. The Mayor
and Town Council shall fix the amount and authorize the pay-
ment of the salary of such subordinate officers, and shall pre-
scribe their duties except as herein provided.

The Chief of Police and the Health Officer, with the ap-
proval of the Mayor and Town Council, shall each appoint
such assistant or assistants as the Council will allow, who shall
be paid compensation in such amount as may be fixed by the
Mayor and Town Council.

The Clerk shall keep a careful record of minutes, proceedings
and ordinances, which shall be open to the inspection of all
persons interested therein, and shall safely keep all records
and documents, issue licenses, collect moneys therefor, and
turn same over to the Town Treasurer. He shall also keep
proper accounts as Clerk, and shall perform such other duties
as the Mayor and Town Council may assign to him.
