SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1st, 1945.

CHAPTER 895.
(House Bill 435)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 48A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Insurance", sub-
title "Agents and Brokers", said new section to immediately
precede Section 82 and to be known as Section 81G, ' de-
fining general agents, agents and solicitors.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and the same is hereby added to
Article 48A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edi-
tion), title "Insurance", sub-title "Agents and Brokers", said
new section to immediately precede Section 82 and to be known
as Section 81G, and to read as follows:

81G. (General Agents, Agents and Solicitors Defined. )

(a) A general agent is hereby defined to be an individual
acting under written authority from any insurance company
to solicit insurance, to write and countersign policies of in-
surance, to collect premiums therefor, and if so authorized by
the company, to supervise and appoint agents and solici-
tors, inspect risks and otherwise transact business for and
as a representative of such insurance company, and in the case
of companies, other than life insurance companies, to write
and countersign policies.

(b) An agent, other than a life insurance agent, is hereby
defined to be an individual acting under written authority
from any insurance company to solicit insurance and write and
countersign policies of insurance and collect premiums there-
for, and if so authorized by the company, to appoint and
remove solicitors for any company for which he is licensed
as agent, to report to and act through him.

(c) A life insurance agent is hereby defined to be any per-
son acting under written authority from a life insurance com-
pany or a duly licensed general life insurance agent or a branch
office of a life insurance company having authority to appoint
agents, to solicit insurance for such company or on behalf
of the general agent or branch office appointing him, but
without the power or authority to issue or countersign policies
