land near the Court House in Leonardtown, to provide parking
facilities therefor. Any condemnation proceedings instituted
under this section shall be according to the procedure specified
in Article 33A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edi-
tion, as amended), title "Eminent Domain. "

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1945.

CHAPTER 825.
(House Bill 689)

AN ACT to add a new section to Article 96 1/2 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title "Veterans", to be
under sub-title "Veterans' Preference", said new section to be
known as Section 47 and to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 46 of said Article, as enacted at the 1945 session of the
General Assembly, relating to veterans' preference in all
examinations for positions under merit or civil service pro-
visions of any County, city or other political sub-division of
the State.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That a new section be and it is hereby added to Article
961/2 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1939 Edition), title
"Veterans' Preference", said new section to be known as Sec-
tion 47 and to follow immediately after Section 46 of said
Article, as enacted at the 1945 session of the General Assembly,
and to read as follows:

47. In every city, county or other political sub-division of
the State in which appointments to positions in the municipal
or county government are made under any civil service or merit
system law or ordinance, the Commission or Board which pro-
vides eligible lists for appointment shall promulgate rules or
regulations granting special credit or credits to honorably dis-
charged veterans of the military and naval services of the
United States and who have been residents of this State for
five years or more immediately preceding the date on which
such veterans take any merit system examination. The said
Commission or Board shall have the power to determine the
nature and extent of the special credit or credits to be allowed
such veterans and may allow a greater credit or credits to dis-
abled veterans than to non-disabled veterans. The same credit,
