ard County", sub-title "Sheriff", as said section was amended
by Chapter 264 of the Acts of 1941, and to enact in lieu
thereof 8 new sections to be known as Sections 293 to 293G,
to follow immediately after Section 292 of said Article, pro-,
viding for compensation and expenses of the Sheriff, the
appointment, compensation and expenses of his Deputies
and the number thereof, the disposition of fines, fees and
costs collected by the Sheriff and for the temporary appoint-
ment of extra deputy sheriffs when the safety and welfare of
the County warrants it, and for the appointment of a warden
to the jail by the County Commissioners of Howard County,
fixing his compensation, and providing for allowance for
food and necessary supplies and provisions.
SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Mary-
land, That Section 293 of Article 14 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Howard
County", sub-title "Sheriff", as said section was amended by
Chapter 264 of the Acts of 1941, be and it is hereby repealed
and that 8 new sections be and they are hereby enacted in lieu
thereof, said new sections to be known as Sections 293 to
293G, to follow immediately after Section 292 of said Article,
and to read as follows:
293. The Sheriff of Howard County shall receive an annual
salary of twenty-five hundred dollars ($2, 500. 00), to be paid him
in quarterly installments of six hundred twenty-five dollars by
the County Commissioners of Howard County, and he shall be
paid, in addition to his salary as aforesaid, mileage, at the rate
of five cents per mile, when, in the discharge of his official
duties, he is required to be out of said county, said salary and
mileage, when out of said county, to be in lieu of all other com-
pensation, traveling expenses or fees of any kind.
The Sheriff of Howard County shall devote his full working
time to the duties of his office.
293A. It shall be the duty of the Sheriff to appoint two
deputy sheriffs, who shall provide automobiles for their own
use in performing their duties, and said deputies shall receive
an annual salary of Fifteen Hundred Dollars ($1, 500. 00), pay-
able in monthly instalments of One Hundred and Twenty-five
Dollars ($125. 00), and they shall be paid, in addition to their
salaries as aforesaid, mileage at the rate of five cents (5^) per
mile, when in the discharge of their duties they are required to
be out of said County, said salary, and mileage when out of
said County, to be in lieu of all other compensation, traveling
expenses or fees of any kind. The said deputies shall hold
