CHAP. 360.

SEC. 18. And be it enacted, That this act shall
take effect from and after the day of its passage.

CHAPTER 360.

In force.

AN ACT to repeal the forty-ninth, fifty-sixth, six-
ty-ninth, seventy-third and seventy-seventh sec-
tions, relating to primary schools in Howard
county, of article thirteen of the public local laws,
and to substitute therefor the following sections
relating to the said primary schools.

2, 1860.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That so much of article thirteen of
the public local law of Howard county as is con-
tained in the forty-ninth section thereof, relating
to primary schools in said county, be and the same
is hereby repealed, and that in lieu thereof, the fol-
lowing section relating to the said primary schools,
be and the same is hereby substituted therefor:

Repealed.

That the county commissioners of Howard county,
be and they are hereby authorised, empowered and
directed to levy upon the taxable property of said
county, the sum of seven thousand dollars annually
for the use of the primary schools of said county, which
said sum shall be equally divided amongst the
school districts of said county, excepting only the
seventh district which shall annually receive three
hundred dollars more than the other districts re-
spectively, so long as a male and female school shall
be kept and maintained in said seventh district, and
the aggregate number of children attending said
schools regularly shall exceed forty.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That so much of arti-

ty, as is contained in the fifty-six and sixty-ninth
sections thereof, relating to primary schools in said
county, be and the same is hereby repealed, and
that in lieu thereof, the following section, relating
to primary schools in said county, be and the same
