CHAP. 291

Authorised
to lay pipe
&c.

SEC. 8. And be it enacted, That so soon as the
same shall be organized by the election of its di-
s, rectors and president as hereinbefore provided, it
shall be lawful for the said company and it is
hereby authorised to proceed to lay or cause to be
laid along and under the streets, squares, lanes
and alleys of the said city of Baltimore, paved or
unpaved, such and as many pipes as may be neces-
sary to carry the gas from their manufactory or
manufactories which they are hereby authorised to
establish and carry on. within said city, and also,
to supply with light any dwelling house or other
buildings or place whatever belonging to any in-
dividual or individuals or corporation adjacent to
any such street, square, lane or alley, in and along
which the said pipes shall be so laid, and the same

from time to time to repair, renew or remove; Pro-
vided, always, that the said company shall not in
in any manner injure or displace any of the pipes
laid or to be laid for the purpose of supplying wa-
ter to said city or any of the pipes then laid by the
Gas Light Company of Baltimore; and provided,
also, that the company hereby incorporated, shall
immediately after laying, repairing or removing
any pipe as aforesaid and always within two days
after being thereto required by the mayor or city
commissioner, cause to be filled up, repaired and
repaved at the expense of said company every such
street or park of a street, square, lane or alley as
the company may find it necessary to dig, impair
or unpave for the purpose of laying, altering,
repairing, renewing or removing any pipe or
pipes as aforesaid, and if the said company shall
be guilty of neglect in the premises for the space
of forty-eight hours after being notified as aforesaid
by the mayor or city commissioners, the said com-
pany shall for every such neglect, forfeit and pay
to the use of the city such sum not exceeding twen-
ty dollars as any justice of the peace for said city,
shall adjudge on a warrant to be issued in the
name of the mayor and city council of Baltimore,
against the president and directors of the said
company, and also, the sum of five dollars to be re-
covered as aforesaid for every day they shall neg-
lect or refuse so to do after the issuing of the first
warrant before mentioned, for the recovery of the
said penalty of twenty dollars.

SEC. 9. And be it enacted, That the People's
Gas Company of Baltimore, when duly organized
