CHAP. 248.

CHAPTER 247.

Passed March
10, 1860.

AN ACT to provide compensation for the several
volunteer companies of this State, and also the
Battalion of Baltimore City Guard who ren-
dered service at Harper's Ferry, on the seven-
teenth, eighteenth, or nineteenth days of Octo-
ber, eighteen hundred and fifty-nine.

Authorised
to pay.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, That the Treasurer shall pay on the
warrant of the Comptroller, two hundred dollars
to each of the volunteer companies of militia of the
First Light Division of Maryland Volunteers; and
the like sum to each of the companies of the Bat-
talion of Baltimore City Guard; and a like sum to
the Junior Defenders, Independent Riflemen and
the United Guards of Frederick city, for services
rendered at Harper's Ferry, on the seventeenth and
eighteenth days of October, eighteen hundred and
fifty-nine; and the further sum of one hundred
dollars to either of said companies which was de-
tained there and rendered additional services after
the rest of the detachment was withdrawn.

In force.

SEC. 2. And be it enacted, That this act shall go
into effect on the passage thereof.

CHAPTER 248.

AN ACT entitled, An act to repeal all the sections
of article four of the Local Public Laws from sec-
tions four hundred and seventy to section five
hundred and thirty-four inclusive, and to substi-
tute therefor the following sections:

Tobacco com-
missioners —
election and
term of office

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly
of Maryland, There shall be elected by the joint
ballot of the Senate and House of Delegates three per-
sons to be styled Tobacco Commissioners, and who
shall hold their offices for two years and until their
successors shall be elected and qualified.
